Who we are
This website, https://generativejustice.org, is run by the Center for Generative Justice (CGJ). We build free, open-source tools for small and worker-owned businesses. If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at [email address].
Our commitment
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing. We collect only what we need to run the site, understand how many people visit, and keep out spam.
Site analytics
We use Google Analytics to count how many people visit the site and which pages they look at. This helps us understand whether our work is reaching people. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect general information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate location (city or region level). We look at this information only in aggregate. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not use it for advertising.
Google processes this data under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can learn how Google uses data from sites like ours at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. If you prefer not to be counted, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or block cookies in your browser settings.
Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the information you enter in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Comments may be checked by an automated spam detection service.
An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a Gravatar profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Cookies
Besides the Google Analytics cookies described above, this site uses a few basic cookies to function:
If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. These last one year.
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.
When you log in, we set cookies to keep you signed in and remember your screen settings. Login cookies last two days (or two weeks if you select “Remember Me”), and screen settings cookies last one year. Logging out removes the login cookies.
Media
If you upload images to the site, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images from the site and extract that location data.
Embedded content from other websites
Some pages may include embedded content such as videos or articles from other websites. That content behaves the same as if you visited the other site directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you have an account with them and are logged in.
How long we keep your data
Comments and their related information are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be approved automatically. If you register an account, we store the information you provide in your profile. You can view, edit, or delete that information at any time (except your username), and site administrators can also see and edit it. Google Analytics data is kept according to the retention period set in our Google Analytics account.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account or have left comments, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. We’ll honor these requests except for any data we’re required to keep for legal, administrative, or security reasons. To make a request, contact us at [email address].
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the updated version on this page with a new “last updated” date.
